This news reflects comments made last night by Eamon Boylan, Chief Executive of Stockport Council, at a Conservative Party Conference fringe event organised by the Housing the Powerhouse campaign. Mr Boylan observed that at least 220,000 new homes will be needed across the 20 year plan period. Based on estimates of development capacity, around 70,000 to 80,000 of these homes will have to be delivered outside the current urban area of Greater Manchester. This, Mr Boylan concluded, will mean that there has to be a Green Belt review “at an appropriate point.” It seems that the appropriate point might have arrived.
All this means that now is the time to start promoting Green Belt sites through the planning system. You can learn more about how to get planning permission on a Green Belt site in this blog post.
Green Belt site promotion can be a long, complicated, expensive process but it is something that The Strategic Land Group specialises in. If you own or aware of a site that you think we could help with please don’t hesitate to get in touch on confidential basis and without any obligation.
